LONDON SHORT LIST

MUST DO:

Mr. Fogg’s Gin Parlour – make a reservation, it’s upstairs, above the pub. They do a great charcuterie board and their cocktails are superb

Tower of London – book tickets online before you go. Their cafe is actually really good, and shockingly inexpensive. They do an excellent Victoria Sponge

Victoria and Albert Museum – STUNNING cafe’, with very good food. The museum has an excellent collection, including lots of major diamond necklaces/tiaras that aristocratic families gave in lieu of death duties.

Windsor Castle – this is a day trip, as it is outside London. Nothing will make you feel like an upstart colonial like looking up the hill at 1,200 years of the might of the British Empire

Burlington Arcade – Bentley Skinner is there, my favorite jeweler in the world. Lots of other high end luxury shops as well

Picadilly Vaults – across the street, is another arcade of great shops

Afternoon Tea at Harrod’s – one of the best in London, though Claridge’s or The Connaught might be better, I just haven’t been – Visit the Food Hall inside Harrod’s while you are there. It’s gorgeous

Borough Market

Kensington Palace/Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens – They are all interconnected

Cruise on the River Thames to Greenwich. You can get off and go see the Observatory and Museum, or just go back into the city.

Westminster Abbey/St. Margaret’s Chapel

Little Venice – have tea of the canal boat cafe’ and take a boat to Camden Town. Camden Market is right by where the boats come in. It’s in an old factory building and it’s a rabbit warren of stalls and shops. There is a very good gin distillery there.

Bits and Bobs:

The Old Roman wall, outside the Museum of the City of London. The museum is interesting as well. They had a great rotating exhibit on The Clash, as well as all the history stuff

Hampton Court Castle – You can get a train directly from Paddington station. The kitchens alone are worth the visit. The Mute Swan is an excellent bougee pub across the street.

Church of St Dunstan in the East – bombed during the 2ndwar. They fortified the ruins and turned it into the coolest little park. You have to really be looking for it to find it.

Check The Vaults Website for your dates, to see if they have some cool performance event going on. I have loved everything we have been to there.

Abbey Road

Buckingham Palace isn’t actually all the exciting to see and the state rooms aren’t normally open in October, though Chuckie might change that now that he is King and doesn’t live there
