It has been busier, travel wise, for our family recently. Two trips to New York City, and one trip to London, all last fall and winter, have helped relieve some of the cabin fever I have experienced during the COVID period. We don’t have a great deal scheduled for this year, but the one we do have on the calendar is a big one! We are spending our first full month in Italy. I have never been somewhere long enough to just stop, breathe, and absorb the character of a place. I am looking forward to slowing down and following the rhythm of the Italians.
Our little apartment is right on the ocean, with a sun drenched terrace and steps down to a private cove. I envision mornings spent exploring, and lazy afternoons by the sea, followed by late evening suppers somewhere in our neighborhood. The youngest of our children is going with me, and he is currently not thrilled about this plan, but I believe he will come around.
Amsterdam is our entry point when we initially land in Europe. Trust me, I looked for every way possible around that, as Schiphol is one of my least favorite airports. It’s like someone dumped out a bowl of spaghetti and used that map to lay out an airport. Heaven help there be a map that says YOU ARE HERE, with the little red dot or arrow. You can see where you should go, but you don’t know where you are, and that makes it difficult to connect the dots.
I looked at VIP handling service, which can be quite affordable, but theirs is expensive, so I kept digging. LO and behold, there is now an app for Schipol, that has a GPS enabled map. Well, thank goodness for small miracles. Now let’s hope I have better cell service in that airport than I did last time.
